Nearly 15 years ago, the cosmic forces of the fashion powers-that-be collided creating the dynamically stylish duo B and R. United by a love of dressing outside the box and all things Clueless, they set out to wage a two-woman war against the evil clutches of bad taste. And so, 180 issues of Vogue later, B and R are still best friends and still intent on making the world a better i.e. more aesthetically appealing place.
In this land of make believe where we’re fashion’s superheroes, our closets are filled with Prada, Derek Lam, and more Loubs than the Madison Avenue store. In real life, we’re a college student and a recent grad who don’t exactly have high-end budgets. The upside- we’ve gotten pretty good at finding maximum style at minimal cost and we want to share our secrets.
We started S&S with this in mind (Super Girl style on real girl budget) along with our two fashion mantras:
1. Fashion should be, above all else, fun. Think of the old saying, “It’s the journey, not the destination.” The process of creating a wardrobe can be headache-inducing, particularly with budget constraints, but it’s the hunt for that perfect black pump or the trial and error involved in crafting a killer outfit that puts the joy in the end result.
2. Who needs a mirror when you’ve got a best friend? Sure, mirrors are very well and good but only your bff can give you an accurate reflection of your newest ensemble creation or snaps for going out on a style limb, or even save you from possible humiliation. For us, fashion is a conversation and we want to hear from everyone that speaks our language.
You’ll probably need the low-down on us:
Hey, I’m R, a 5th year senior at Indiana University and self-proclaimed fashion addict. I got my style footing back in 5th grade post Clueless and while a lot has changed since then you’ll never pry the knee socks from my cold dead hands. I now spend my days rocking boots of any form, quizzing myself on the latest runway shows and reading every fashion magazine I can get my hands on. Course I’m in no way surprised by my fashion obsession; with a Mom who had 5 closets in our old house, a Dad who color codes his unparalleled polo collection, and a best friend who has been reading fashion mags since age 12, I guess you could say I was destined.
Hola, I’m B, bubbly, totally dorky, and your classic Type A personality. I just graduated from University of Michigan and while my current plans are TBD, someday, by hook or by crook, I’ll be a lawyer for a major fashion house (well, not so much the crook part, but you know what I mean). I live for impossibly tall shoes. I can quote The Devil Wears Prada at will and did once accidentally in a job interview. If Dominoes delivered to my closet, I’d probably never leave. Fashion is my one true love; tied for second place: traveling, chick flicks with the bestest, and the English bulldog puppy my parents won’t let me have.
