StyleHop will be attending the Academy of Art University fashion show at Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week on Saturday, and we were given a sneak peak at the collection!
Since 2005, the School of Fashion at Academy of Art University in San Francisco has premiered the collections of recent graduates during Mercedes-Benz New York Fashion Week. This season, six womenswear collections from the Fashion, Knitwear, Technical, and Textile Design programs will be presented.
Here is a sneak peak of the collection:
I loved the looks so much, that I had to get more info from the designers! I asked the designers to answer the question: “Who would you most like to see sitting first row at your show, and why?” Check out their answers!:

Who would you most like to see sitting first row at your show, and why?
Stella McCartney is one of my favorite designers and I would love to know her thoughts on my collection. She went to Central St. Martins School of Art and Design with our director Simon Ungless and was in San Francisco last year for a Neiman Marcus event.
Sabah Mansoor Husain

Who would you most like to see sitting first row at your show, and why?
I would love to have a woman named Tenzin Yang at the show. She is an amazingly talented artist who makes felt hats and bags in a small shop in Darjeeling, India and taught me how to create felt when I was 15 years old. When I began developing my collection, I remembered learning the process in her work room. The craft had been passed down through generations in her family and she spoke about the creative process with such passion. I would love to know her reaction to my collection but sadly do not have contact with her anymore.

Who would you most like to see sitting first row at your show, and why?
I would love to see Patrick McCarthy, chairman and editorial director of W magazine and Fairchild Fashion Group, sitting in the front row at our show. W magazine has always been my favorite publication. I feel that it shows a fresh and edgy side to fashion and have always found the editorials and spreads in it to be amazing. (W featured Academy of Art University’s School of Fashion in a 3-page story in the September 2008 issue).

Who would you most like to see sitting first row at your show, and why?
Swedish knitwear designer Sandra Backlund (www.sandrabacklund.com) because she showed me unconventional ways to knit at her workshop a year ago.
Marina Solomatnikova
MFA Fashion Design
Who would you most like to see sitting first row at your show, and why?
I would like Cate Blanchett to be sitting front row at the show as she is the embodiment of elegance and refined style; Natalia Vodianova, as she is the ambassador of Russian beauty and enchantment; and Bernard Arnault, as my perspective business partner!
Naomi Sutton
MFA Fashion & Textile Design
Who would you most like to see sitting first row at your show, and why?
I would love to see Alberta Ferretti in the front row. I absolutely love her designs, they are whimsical, delicate and romantic. I love the femininity in her clothes and know I would learn so much from her were I given the opportunity. She was once quoted as saying “I try to transform a dream’s magic into reality”. Need I say more – Amazing!
