As we all know by know, last week’s episode to the designers to the Met to design a high-end look (in teams – eek!) that would fit in with the museum’s memorable designer looks. In the end, Mila’s (with help from Jonathan) 60’s-inspired jacket and pants took the win while Ping’s (with no defense from teammate Jesse) draped mess of a dress caused her to be auf’d (I say FINALLY!)
This week on Project Runway, the challenge was for the designers to design the signature dress for Campbell Soup’s “adDress your Heart” gala. The designers had to make a predominantly red dress and incorporate Campbell’s logo fabric (or something about him) in some form or another. But, the biggest challenge was to design for REAL women – not size 0 models.
Because their models were not needed, some of the designers had issues. For full-figured women, most designers just want to stick them in sacks, but you have to give the woman some shape! Anna and Seth Arron seemed to have some trouble with this, as well as keeping his style in mind when designing for his client. Jesus thought he lucked out with a skinny woman, but we’ll see if that comes back to bite him!
On the runway, I was most impressed with Amy’s flowy gown (above middle), Jay’s structured bodice dress, Jonathan’s tiered deep red gown and Ben’s frock with gold belt. On the other hand, I was least impressed with Jesus’ tight mini (complete with TACKY rhinestone straps – above right) and Anna’s belted sack. In the end, Amy’s gown won the judge’s approval while Jesus and his tasteless mini were auf’d.
