For one reason or another, this season I have acquired a fascination for tutus. I absolutely love the playfulness they add to an outfit, and because it’s winter, tutus are perfect for layering. You don’t have to be like me and wear crazy poofy tutus out in public. The skirts shown above are from Nasty Gal Vintage, Forever21, and American Apparel, and all work perfectly for everyday looks. Pair them with simple tops or leotards to add a casual contrast to your dramatic skirt. Wearing a tutu-style skirt is supposed to be fun, so don’t be afraid to add accessories and play with the theme. Typically, I wear my tutu skirts with leotards but I pile on sparkly jewelry, patterned tights and flats for a glamorous-ballerina look. Another idea is wearing your tutu-skirt underneath another thin skirt or dress in order to add volume to the outfit. Because I know that I adore this trend, I splurged on this Betsey Johnson tutu, but none of the above skirts break the bank. I hope that you readers will try out this trend!
