You all know him: the fingerless gloves, the dark sunglasses, the silver ponytail. Karl Lagerfeld has been the creative force behind Chanel for over 25 years, but he is not yet dry of ideas. CNN International interview Lagerfeld in Shanghai while he was their showing his Chanel pre-fall collection. He told CNN’s Talk Asia show, “My job is to put in people’s brain the idea what Chanel was all about, even if it was not about such a large choice of things… I pushed [Coco Chanel's] symbol, like the change of pearls, in a way much more than she did herself. I could play with everything and mix it with everything that’s going on in fashion because fashion is about that. It’s not retrospective, it has to be something you want to wear now.”
We know The Kaiser is a hard worker and all, but does he really dislike vacations? I love this line from the interview: “Holidays on the beach are okay but don’t tell us it’s for inspiration, because you become dumb in the sun.” Well alrighty then!
Check out the whole interview on CNN on Wednesday, December 23rd.
