Singing in front of a crowd that includes Diddy, Donna Karan, and Bob Pittman? Talk about a dream come true. Singer Sasha Lazard, who confidently blends opera, folk, rock and electronic into her eclectic sound and style, did just that Wednesday night with André Balazs at the spot known as the Boom Boom Room in NYC. The theme that night was “old world glamour”, in which Lazard explains, “an age when people went out and were properly dressed.”
“When I came here for opening night, I was so blown away by the aesthetic of this place. I had an immediate fantasy about performing here,” said Lazard. She sang for over an hour on the 18th floor of Balazs’ Standard Hotel and in the past has performed at the National Arts club and at private events for jaw-dropping names like Bulgari and Louis Vuitton.
I think it’s incredible when the fashion world can brilliantly synthesize different arts, like singing and fashion. The pairing of a glamour style-inspired night with a live performance is a perfect example of fashion and art in it’s most creative form. “It feels like a living room here. Its nice for people to be able to enjoy music this way,” said the singer.
What is your take on how fashion should reach people through music and live performace? What did you think of Lazard’s pale pink fur dress?
