Loving her Style: Emma Pillsbury from Glee

I don’t know about you, but I have become kind of obsessed with Glee (it’s my roommate and I’s Wednesday night indulgence). Besides the joyful dancing & singing and the high school drama, the outfits are not half bad either. Especially the retro “geek-chic” pastels worn by the doe-eyed, neat freak guidance counselor, Emma Roberts (played by actress Jayma Mays). The brooches, the bows, the cardigans, the bright colors…I love it! InStyle caught up with the actress to talk about her character’s wardrobe.

“I like to call Emma’s wardrobe quirky-chic!” says the actress. “While her outfits are always very put-together, they are still fun and flirty with bows and flowers and the colors of sorbet.” The character wears tone-on-tone pencil skirts, blouses and vintage-inspired sweaters, all topped off with bold jewelry. “It’s amazing what a coral-colored necklace can do to a plain brown cardigan,” says Mays. And if she could nab a piece from her character’s jewelry box? “My favorite so far has been the owl sweater clips [from the second episode]…these should definitely be making a comeback, right?! Marc Jacobs, can you hear me?”

Similar printed shirt (Charlotte Russe, $34) and skirt with bow, okay this one’s not orange, (ModCloth $110)

I am in love with this navy military-esque cardigan! The original Tracy Reese Sousa Regalia cardigan is definitely not for a teacher’s budget. But this amazing similar version byASOS (about $50) is just as good!

First off, yellow and turquoise are two of my favorite colors, so when she wore this yellow bow blouse (I think hers was the Alice + Oliva bow blouse) and bright turquoise pencil skirt, I was in love. Again, the colors are not totally right, but you get the gist. Get a similar look with this purple Mavis blouse ($50) and Summer Intern skirt($40), both from ModCloth.

I loved her in this yellow tone on tone outfit. She shows that you can wear similar colors all at once (as long as they are not the exact same color). Try this cashmere sweater (J. Crew, $80), ruffled tank (J. Crew, $88), pencil skirt ($73) and two-toned patent pumps ($105).
