Looking for a tote that’s made of more than just fabric? The Nomi Network, a non-profit organization dedicated to fighting sexual slavery, held a successful launch party in Soho last Thursday to unveil their new slave-free slogan tote bags, part of the “Buy Her Bag, Not Her Body” campaign.

Nomi Network has partnered with fashion designers to both raise awareness of the dire situation some women struggle with while providing them with opportunities for financial independence. They empower survivors of sex trafficking by providing the opportunity to make these beautiful and very convenient totes (perfect for class or the beach), giving them an income and a way out of the sex trade.

The event drew a very fashionable crowd of twenty-something women (including yours truly) who wanted to get involved in this cause. Keynote speaker at the event, director/actress Esosa Edosomwan, delivered a compelling speech relaying her experiences and thoughts on human trafficking, stereotyping and all forms of sexual abuse.

The Nomi Network recently presented Lucy Liu, an active supporter of this issue, with a new tote at an anti-trafficking symposium.
