Celebrity stylist Stacy London has a mission: to help everyday women, who often times have to work with a rather strict budget, find clothing that can ultimately create a wardrobe that screams confidence. That’s why recently London took a road trip through cities such as Chicago, Dallas, and Atlanta, providing women with fall wardrobe tips as part of Ann Taylor Loft’s Mobile Style Studio tour.
Best known for her fashion expertise on TLC’s What Not to Wear, London has worked with everyone from your average soccer mom on the show to celebrities such as Kate Winslet and Katie Holmes and consulted for designers such as Vivienne Tam and Rebecca Taylor.
London will often pull out outfits from H&M, Loehmann’s, Ann Taylor Loft (and the dressier sister store, Ann Taylor) for her fashion subjects on What Not to Wear. Both Ann Taylor and Ann Taylor Loft are now introducing new design teams and improving the fits, and London has been doing a marvelous job of exposing the new changes.
“I’m always emphasizing ‘use value,’ not ‘trend value,’ ” London said. Rather than playing slave to the trends of the season, she said, “you can pick modern basics, staples that work for you, that speak to a trend.”
Among London’s list of recommendations for the fall are ruffled tops, tweed trousers, and pencil skirts.
“Fashion is the industry. Style is the individual,” she adds. “If we can change our perspective about what beauty means, we’d feel a whole lot better about ourselves.”
