Ah, the first day of Fashion Week! All the crowds of fashionistas are out and raring to go for the next 7 days of fabulous fashion. Fashion Week started off with a mix of new and old designers, including celeb-turned-designers Whitney Port and Gwen Stefani. Fabulous spring dresses by Max Azria and Monique Lhuillier graced the runways with colors and sleek sophistication. Vena Cava and L.A.M.B. took a different approach to the traditional runway and added ladders and pedestals to the runway for a more unique pose. Can’t wait to see what Day 2 brings!
As I would have expected, Whitney Port’s Spring 2010 line for Whitney Eve is full of girly and flirty dresses (mostly mini). Metallics, florals and rainbow ombré seemed to be her pallets of choice. Overall, The City star put out some really cute pieces that I would definitely wear. Hey, at least it isn’t a line a solely jersey dresses!
Straight off her tour with No Doubt, Gwen Stefani finds time to show off her Spring 2010 collection of her own line, L.A.M.B. Keeping with the line’s rocker-chic vibe, this upcoming season features tunics, leggings and lace tights. Standing on platforms, the models rock layered necklaces, mini dresses (and onesies!), and structured jackets – like this one paired with jersey harem pants (which actually kind of works).
Vena Cava kept with the monochromatic look this season, but added pops of red to a dress and top. Like L.A.M.B., Vena Cava took the alternative route and used ladders in their show, which the models posed on after their walk. Fitted tops paired with pants (pleated, high waisted, skinny) were prominent on the runway. There was even a model who exposed a little too much!
One of my favorites of the day, BCBG Max Azria showed off a fun, youthful color pallet filled with flowy hemlines, cutouts and strong piping. Azria mixed light blue/green printed dresses with more structured bright yellow and orange dresses. From strapless to sharp shoulder to one-shoulder garments, the tops of dresses were all over the spectrum. A few one-shouldered dresses had shoulders made from mesh to work with the accompanying mesh cutouts of the dress. Love the colors, love the designs, love the variety.
Feminine and sophisticated are two words to describe Monique Lhuillier’s Spring 2010 collection. Known for her amazing dresses that any woman would love, Lhuillier did not disappoint this season. From daytime suits to red carpet worthy gowns, she created classy looks for every type of woman. The fedora hats give a bit of edge to the dresses. I totally see the above look on some red carpet event.
