While I am still lusting over Richard Chai’s line for Target, lovers of his brand will be more than thrilled to hear about his upcoming contemporary line – with affordable prices, I might add.
The line, which takes from the current “boyfriend clothes” trend of oversized button-downs, blazers and vests, features boyish yet stylish clothes for the fashion-conscious, but with a sense of relaxation. And he’s not just creating it for girls, but guys as well (Unisex clothing? Can I say what a great example of improvising!).
“It’s inspired by my girl, who’s in love with the guy that I dress,” Chai said to WWD. “They’re not carbon copies of each other, but they go hand in hand.” In other words, the best way to describe it is what WWD wrote in their headline: boy meets girl.
The best part is, all of the clothes from Chai’s 40-piece line starts at $50 and goes up to $425. Definitely a fraction of his typical prices.
Of course, the price is a definite perk, but if we are to talk strictly on style and trend terms, I couldn’t be more excited for this line. Personally, I was so happy the day skin-tight, baby tees went out of fashion (or so I think) because with just the right accessorizing – whether it be jewelry or belts – the slumpy, oversized clothing can easily be turned into a classy statement without the hooch factor.
The tomboy luxe line is to be previewed at Chai’s runway show on September 12 and to hit stores in Spring 2010. Is it too early to start counting down?
