It’s the summer months that make me wish I had a freeze button and could stop time. July is prime time summer and no better a time to enjoy a barbeque, picnic and some fun in the sun. Nothing would make this time better than some fabulous fashion to go along with it. I have scowered the stores and Web sites to find my absolute favorites for the month of July (my birthday wish list may have had something to do with it as well!). These basic (and not so basic) looks are definitely tops on my list.
In a world of basic platform wedges, this is that…and more. These brown and mesh Calvin Klein wedges are just the right platform with a little more edge. Even Rachel Zoe loves them!
It is obvious that in the summer you are going to wear sandals. Why not put a little more “pretty” into your everyday flip flop? These Pour la Victoire sandals have the feminine touch of ruffles and pink and a little bit of edge with snake skin and zipper detailing.
This easy, breezy cotton sundress is the perfect dress for a hot summer day. The bright yellow and embroidered detail on this Forever 21 drawstring dress. You could dress it way down as a beach cover-up or wear it around town while window shopping by the pier.
Kick back in this grey cotton/linen romper from Lulu’s. This sporty version of the oh-so-hot romper is perfect for outdoor fun or hanging out at the lake. Front pockets, snap buttons down the center and a hood add the finishing touches to this romper you can actually “romp” around in.
Now normally I am not a fan of crop tops, but I am overlooking the idea of being solely a midriff baring top and thinking of it as a layering piece. This Free People crop top is cropped and draped in a way that you can do so much with it. Layer it over another shirt or pair it with a high-waisted skirt.
A sexy and easy piece this summer: the bandage skirt. This one from Arden B. adds a sassy pop to your look. The skirt has an exposed zipper (also a big trend) on the back and comes in black or white. Being summer and all, I am leaning towards the white. Just add a bright top and you will be summertime sexy.
The idea of wearing a loose fitting men’s-type shirt and it still be deemed as chic sounds like a fine idea to me! This textured boyfriend shirt from Gap is slouchy without being sloppy. You can cuff the sleeves or let them hang long. Pair it with leggings or skinny jeans, or in this case, cut-off jean shorts for the summer.
Statement necklaces are all the rage this season. Turn a simple white T-shirt and shorts into something spectacular with this necklace from Banana Republic. The brooch cluster effect on this necklace makes it look very ornate and vintage. Like most jewelry, this necklace is sure to be a year-round piece.
American Apparel is known for having an array of basic tees, skirts and dresses. This fringed (also hot this season) mini dress has the detailing around the front neckline and deep V in the back. I love anything with a dip in the back, so this dress really stood out to me. The boxy silhouette allows for wearing the dress many different ways.
These loose fitting paper bag shorts from Urban Outfitters are the epitome of simplistic summer. The linen blend shorts are perfect for lounging around on a hot summer day. The higher waist makes these shorts versatile and comfortable; Pair with a tucked-in tank or a worn in T-shirt.
