Trends are the one aspect of fashion that work for some, but can go terribly wrong for others.  Sometimes trends are designed for a typical body type, and it can be rather frustrating when you aren’t that particular type.  In these kind of cases, its usually best to trash the trend and dress in such a way that flatters your figure.

In Wolverine territory, one campus trend has me more than baffled by its popularity. High-waisted skirts are all the rage among University of Michigan students.  With this said, I suppose I can understand why these skirts (see photo above) have been donned by so many girls on campus.  But, lets be real, these skirts look more like an apron than a trendy skirt.

If you’re looking to test out the high-waisted trend, try a pencil skirt like this Interlock Pencil Skirt from American Apparel for $32.00 (see left). Or, if you don’t want a pencil skirt, a full skirt made of a thicker cotton can be a great alternative to accent the waist in a flattering way.  Check out this Cotton Smocked Skirt from Banana Republic for $69.00 (see right).
